If you're like me, just walking long distances through sand can be tough. That's the idea behind David and Minna Herskowitz's Sandbox Fitness in Sherman Oaks, California. Sandbox Fitness is not an average gym. It's an indoor sand box facility built around high intensity workouts that are meant to test your physical stamina.
Together, David and Minna have over 30 years of fitness experience, and they have always lived active lifestyles. While they were recovering from separate injuries several years ago, the beach was the best place for them to workout. The sand provides extra resistance, but it's a low-impact surface that alleviates stress on your body's joints. They decided to take their love for fitness and the beach, bring it indoors and share it to the masses. Sandbox Fitness was founded in 2014.
Sandbox Fitness offers a variety of different exercise classes that all incorporate their own style of functionality. The highlight to many of their classes is the use of the Surfset design that was featured on season four of ABC's SharkTank.
Below is a video of David Herskowitz explaining their Surfset Balance (Yoga) class.
