NASCAR modified legend Ted Christopher was killed Saturday in a plane crash in a wooded area of Guilford, Connecticut, ESPN reports. He was 59 years old.
Police told WFSB that two people on board a Mooney M20C aircraft were killed when it went down around 1:53 p.m. It's unclear where the plane took off, but the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
The name of the second victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
Christopher was scheduled to compete in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at New York's Riverhead Raceway on Saturday night.
