'Heritage not Hate' rally held in Richmond, counter-protesters march against them

A "Heritage not Hate" rally, organized by a group called "The New Confederate States of America" congregated on Monument Ave. in Richmond Saturday morning, according to our affiliate WSET.

The group was planning to protest the removal of statues on Monument Ave. at the Robert E. Lee Memorial.

Group leaders said their goal was to defend the Confederate monuments against those who wish them taken down.

Richmond Police said they prepared for the possibility of opposing groups to arrive and hold a counter-protest.

Counterprotesters started their march on Monument Ave. at the Maggie Walker Statue and then made their way to the J.E.B. Stuart statue.
