A location scout for the popular Netflix show "Narcos" was found dead Monday in a remote region of central Mexico.
A friend of 37-year-old Carlos Muñoz Portal, told the newspaper El Pais that Portal had been taking photos and scouting a location for season 4 of "Narcos" at the time of his death.
The seasoned scout's bullet-riddled car was found in a remote area near the border of Hidalgo state, which as Variety reports, has the highest murder rate in Mexico.
"We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family," Netflix said in a statement. "The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate."
According to local media, investigators are still having trouble piecing together a motive or suspects in the case because of the lack of witnesses.
