Ah, lip gloss.
The sticky, gooey mess of a product that kept our hair stuck to our lips in middle school. But when used right, it’s absolutely gorgeous – which is why it still remains a popular option for plumping lips.
Meagan Baldini, a 25-year-old from Vancouver, Canada, is no stranger to lip gloss, and in fact shows off a masterful skill in using them in beautiful ways on her Instagram account, @megbaldini. Baldini’s feed is a gorgeous display of all the various types of lip art and makeup she has done over the years.
“The trick to the extra glossy look is in the words – I use a copious and uncomfortable amount of gloss,” she said when asked about the glossy look.
One would take a look at her work and assume she’s a professional, but in fact, all of it started out as a passion hobby.
“I’ve always been a creative person – so for me it was a way of accessing my creativity again all while getting ready in the morning,” said Baldini, who works as a construction estimator for a general contractor when she’s not experimenting with lip art.
“My career is a very empowering one. There are not many young women in the industry as it is still a predominately male world that I work in. Sometimes I show up to site meetings with sub trades and they look at me like I’m lost because I still show up wearing whatever lipstick suits my mood that day.”
Baldini became more serious about her makeup hobby after she got lip injections – a way of plumping lips that may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but a decision that pushed the artist to be even more creative with her looks.
“The wildest lip art I’ve done is definitely the two memes I’ve created,” Baldini said.
It typically takes her an hour or two to complete a look, depending on whether she is taking a photo or a video of it – or four hours, if it’s really intricate.
