Anna Faris admitted that her ex-husband Chris Pratt wasn't exactly her 'best friend'

Actress Anna Faris opened up about her relationship with her ex-husband Chris Pratt and said that she didn't consider him to be her "best friend" when they were together.

In a essay for Cosmopolitan, the 40-year-old actress wrote that she didn't believe in the idea that she didn't need a close group of friends because she had a significant other.

"I was once told that I didn’t need a tight group of girlfriends because Chris should be my best friend. But I never bought that," she wrote. "The idea of your mate being your best friend — it’s overhyped. I really believe that your partner serves one purpose and each friend serves another. There’s the friend you confess things to and the friend with whom you do the listening."

The actress reflected on her past views about friendship.

"In my 20s, I thought it was cool to say I was a guys' girl," she began. "I didn't realize until later how lame I sounded, bragging as though having a lot of girlfriends was a bad thing...I touted my male friends as if my association with them spoke to how cool I really was. I was selling my own gender down the river, and I wasn't even getting any fulfillment from the relationships with those dudes," she wrote.

"Today, I’m lucky to have a handful of women I count as confidantes. Among them, Allison Janney, my co-star on Mom, Meghan, a friend from my hometown of Edmonds, Washington, and Kate, a dear childhood friend who I probably have nothing in common with anymore — at least from an outsider’s perspective — but who totally gets me because ... history," she added.

Faris and Pratt met on the set of the 2007 film "Take Me Home Tonight." The couple later married in 2009 and were together for more than eight years.

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt recently announced their separation in August on social media.

Pratt wrote that out of respect for their son, the two wanted to keep the details of their situation as private as possible moving forward. Pratt also said that he and Faris "...still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
