Mermaids in England made waves over the weekend by setting a new world record for most mermaids gathered together on a beach for more than 5 minutes.
Around 325 mermaids and mermen of all ages flipped their fins all the way into history, surpassing the necessary 300 participants to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
The 'Festival of the Sea' in Bexhill on the south coast of England was a month-long celebration, with activities focused on ocean conservation. But the event that drew the most festival-goers was the Guinness world record attempt for the largest gathering of mermaids on Saturday.
This isn't the first time the competitive town has sought to be number one. Bexhill recently got the world record for the largest number of people doing the Charleston dance together, with 1,076 dancers.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
