Having fuller, plumper lips has been a rising beauty trend we’ve been noticing especially out here in Los Angeles. You can achieve that particular look by wearing a lip-plumping lip gloss, getting actual injections or trying noninvasive lip plumping methods like sucking on a shot glass (remember the Kylie Jenner challenge? Please don't be one of them). This $130 noninvasive lip plumper from Juvalips promises to plump your lips without bruising or looking ridiculous – so we decided to give it a go on our normal, dry lips to see if it actually worked.
Created by beauty industry veteran (formerly Aveda) Gina Fredrickson and engineer Brett Nelson, the plumper claims to be one of the most effective alternatives to lip injections.
Our first impression of the lip plumper was that it's small enough to fit in a small bag, so it'd be good on the go. It's battery-powered and has no harsh edges all around, which made me feel safe putting my face on it. Using the device was pretty easy - you make sure you seal your lips tight, shove them into the mouthpiece and press the button. It's self-timed to sixty seconds, so you don't need to hold the button for the entire minute.
The lip plumper is pretty powerful - the suction power was strong enough to hold onto the lips without us holding it with our hands.
And the result? We all ended up with a subtle yet tangible plump that gave us a slightly fuller bottom lip and a more defined arch on the upper lip. If you're looking for something dramatic like the ones from the Kylie Jenner challenge, this is probably not for you. But if you're looking for a way to make your lips subtly plumper and add lip gloss or lipstick over it to make it more noticeable, this might be for you.
