Search-and-rescue teams in California retrieved the bodies of two students missing from a car accident Friday morning.
The two bodies authorities retrieved presume to be Pakapol Chairatnathrongporn, 28, and Thiwadee Saengsuriyarit, 24. Officials say they were both exchange students at the University of South Florida.
On July 26 their rented vehicle went through a guardrail and fell 500 feet off a cliff into the Kings River. The Fresno County Sheriff's office said in a Facebook post that the red 2016 Hyundai Sonata had been "stuck against a rock."
Authorities had to delay the rescue operations last month due to safety concerns. The Thai community in California had expressed frustration over the delayed rescue process. "The families are devastated," Thai Consul General Tanee Sangrat said.
