For months, UFC fighter Conor McGregor used social media to taunt his former boxing opponent, Floyd Mayweather. Now, he is sending a very different message.
On Thursday, McGregor posted a photo on Instagram of him raising a cup of whiskey. He wrote "Congrats to Floyd on a well-fought match. Very experienced and methodical in his work. I wish him well in retirement. He is a heck of a boxer."
But he didn't stop there; the UFC fighter continued to praise Mayweather.
"His experience, his patience and his endurance won him this fight hands down. I always told him he was not a fighter but a boxer. But sharing the ring with him he is certainly a solid fighter. Strong in the clinch. Great understanding of frames and head position," he wrote.
Some Instagram users commented on McGregor's photo praising his comments.
One wrote "Spoke like a gentleman. I'm a fan again and fantastic show from the boy from Dublin who once was lost." Another person wrote "You're humble and amazing!"
Days before the fight, McGregor posted on photo that poked fun at his opponent. He wrote "A beautiful skull and a beautiful belt to add to my collection of skulls and belts."
