Melania Trump's decision to board a flight to flood-ravaged Texas in sky-high stilettos on Tuesday caused quite the stir on social media.
The first lady changed into sneakers before she and President Trump arrived in Corpus Christi, Texas, to begin their tour of Tropical Storm Harvey's devastation.
But by then, many on Twitter had passed judgment on the first lady, arguing it was in poor taste to wear stilettos to a disaster zone.
"Melania" was still trending hours after the first lady boarded the flight in stilettos and deplaned in sneakers.
The first lady's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, fired back at those criticizing her.
"It's sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes," Grisham told Fox News via email.
Some on social media agreed that it was much ado about nothing.
There's a ton of legitimate shit worthy of outrage right now. The shoes that Melania Trump wears on a flight to Texas isn't one of them.— Lauren Rankin (@laurenarankin) August 29, 2017
Melania's "FLOTUS" hat also drew attention, though with much less controversy.
