Remember the joy you felt when you cracked open your school lunchbox and found the heaven that is peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?
You can relive that moment over (and over and over) at PBJ.LA in downtown Los Angeles. They only recently opened inside the famed Grand Central Market, but they’re already creating a ton of buzz on the LA food scene (I mean, it’s obvious why, right?).
Everything on the menu is a variation of peanut butter and jelly: nut butters + jams/preserves/etc. It’s peanut butter and jelly, turned way up. Gourmet style. And also - vegan. The Indian, for example, is curried cashew butter paired with mango chutney. The Italian is a toasted pine nut butter paired with basil cherry tomato jam, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and your choice of (non-vegan) mozzarella or (vegan) smoked provolone cheese.
For the purists, there’s also always plain ol’ peanut butter and jelly.
And because no one (really though, no one) likes the crust, every sandwich is crimped into a crustless perfectly round disc.
Wash all of it down with one of PBJ.LA’s flavored almond milks. The vanilla lavender almond milk is the resounding crowd favorite.
You can thank co-founders Brad Greenberg, Payvand Salehi, and Jimmy Franklin for this nostalgic throwback to your childhood.
The LA food scene is something to behold, so here's more. These noodles levitate out of the bowl on their own (or do they?!). And, everyone's favorite emoji is the smiling poop, and someone made it into a churro.
