VR360: Peru's Snow Star festival was without snow this year

Share

Every year in late May or early June, there is a religious festival held in the Sinakara Valley in Peru. Known as Quyllurit'i or Snow Star it is a celebration of the reappearance of the Pleiades constellation. The festival brings in thousands of indigenous people from surrounding areas who usually climb on to a glacier in the Andes and bring back ice (which they believe have medicinal powers), but due to global warming festival goers were not allowed to touch the glacier this year.
