A young dancer from Katy Perry's 'Swish Swish' music video has a beautiful trending hashtag

0

When you scroll through the dance videos on Amanda Lacount’s Instagram page, one of the first thoughts you’ll have is, "Wow. She’s really, really good.”

Singer Katy Perry scrolled through Lacount’s feed, watching video after video, and was also impressed with what she saw.

As a result, Lacount was hand-picked by Perry to be featured in the pop star's new “Swish Swish” music video.

Lacount says when she found out, she was shaking and couldn’t speak full sentences (an adorable clip from this moment is in the video).

As you can imagine, it was a big (huge) deal to win the competition. She beat out 100,000 other dancers who submitted videos of themselves dancing to the song, no doubt all of them talented and strong at their craft.

Lacount is just as talented, but what Perry saw in Lacount was probably her spirit.

Lacount is becoming a name on Instagram because of a hashtag she created - #breakingthestereotype - to encourage positive body image and acceptance in the dance world.

Watch the video to see what Lacount says about the industry and why she thinks this is an important message to spread. Better yet, if you have a teenager or young adult in the house, show her the video. Lacount's positivity and outlook on body image is an incredible model for young women to adopt.

But the great thing is her message goes well beyond the dance world. #Breakingthestereotype resonates with a lot of people, and it’s what has grown her audience to almost 60,000 followers. Just scroll through the comments. By the end of it, you’ll be boppin’ along to her dance videos with the same glow she carries day in and day out.
