Crews covered the Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson statues in Charlottesville

Officials have shrouded the statues of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson in Charlottesville, Virginia, our affiliate WSET reported.

The Lee statue was covered around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crews then moved to Justice Park to cover the Stonewall Jackson statue.

City Council voted to cover Lee and Stonewall Jackson in black fabric to honor Heather Heyer at their meeting that ran into early Tuesday morning.

Heather Heyer was killed on August 12 during the Unite the Right rally when a car ran into a group of pedestrians.

Crews in Justice Park started to cover the statue around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
