Authorities are trying to piece together the details of how a 25-year-old Alabama woman survived for almost a month in the wilderness.
Lisa Theris was found naked on the side of the highway on Saturday, August 12th. She went missing almost a month ago after spending time with two men who reportedly burglarized a hunting lodge. According to Theris when she found out what the men were planning to do, she jumped out of their car and ran into the woods.
“She’s not familiar with this area and apparently on the night she ran, she went into the woods at night and got lost. I just thank God that she’s alive.”
She reportedly lived in the woods for 28 days eating only berries and mushrooms and drinking from creeks and puddles.
She was spotted by a motorist from Florida who says they initially thought Theris was a deer. After realizing it was in fact a person, the woman called the authorities. Theris was then rushed to the emergency room where she was reunited with her family.
She was covered in bug bites, badly sunburned and emaciated. According to a police report, she lost over 50 pounds during her time in the woods.
“The bugs had really been on her and she had a lot of scratch marks. We didn’t ask her too many questions. We want to make sure her health is good so we got her on to the hospital. We did not interrogate her at that time.” Sheriff Raymond Rodgers
Manley Davis and Randall Oswald, the two suspects who reportedly broke into the hunting cabin were arrested for the burglary and questioned by authorities.
“We don’t have the total details on everything yet. We wanted to make sure her health was in the best shape and in the days to come, we’ll get some answers,. She’s alive and that’s all that matters at this moment. We can confirm she was in the area, but as far as that goes, we can’t confirm anything else right now.”
