The winning numbers were announced in Friday's drawing, and lottery officials said the ticket was bought at a restaurant called Nick's Barbecue.
“We're very excited about selling the winning ticket and we're very, very happy for the winner because we know it's one of our customers,” Nick Andricopulos, the owner of Nick's, told NBC News. He also said the he has been receiving phone calls and text messages congratulating him all night, and that his staff members were shocked.
Nick's has been selling lottery tickets for about six or seven years, and Andricopulos estimated about 5,000 tickets were sold this last week for the jackpot.
In Mega Millions' 15-year-history, this jackpot is said to be the fifth-largest, and it was the first time since all U.S. lotteries started selling Mega Millions and Powerball tickets that each jackpot was over $300 million at the same time.
