After nearly five years, Kesha returns with a very personal record

Pop star Kesha's name has been in the news quite a bit lately. However, it's not been to announce a new album.

Kesha and her former producer, Dr. Luke, have been locked in a vicious court battle that's kept the singer from releasing new material. During the ordeal she's been very vocal about how painful it's been for her and how trapped she's felt inside her contract.

Kesha's been incredibly forthcoming about how her legal woes and the dramatic events that began them have influenced her writing and her performances on this record. And, it seems that putting more heart into her typically dance pop music is paying off.

The album drops Aug. 11 but already has fans and critics alike singing its praises.
