A 911 caller tried to warn of a suspected DUI driver... and then crashed

A suspected drunken driver crashed head-on into another vehicle Sunday morning just as another motorist was calling 911 to report the man's erratic driving, the Washington State Patrol told KOMO.

The collision happened at around 10:45 a.m. on Highway 9 near 84th Street NE, east of Marysville, said Trooper Heather Axtman.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the suspected DUI driver was heading south on Highway 9 in a gray car when he crossed the centerline into oncoming northbound traffic and crashed head-on into an SUV.

The driver of a car behind the suspected DUI driver was on the phone with 911 dispatchers about the man's erratic driving when the crash happened, Axtman said.

The drunk driving suspect was taken into custody by troopers at the scene.

One lane of Highway 9 was blocked at the scene after the crash but has since reopened.
