Hatebreed makes music with a positive message despite their name

Circa News recently caught up with Hatebreed's Frank Novinec just before the band's set at the Jones Beach, NY stop on the 2017 Vans Warped Tour.

Hatebreed has been making metal music for the last 20+ years and, with a name like that, they've been easily categorized as one of those bands that Tipper Gore would have had a field day with during her campaign for putting parental warnings on albums. However, there's never been any malice or actual hatred behind that name.

But the name, it's just taken from a Misfits song, "Hatebreeders" - that's it. That's all it was from. And Glenn (Danzig, founding member of Misfits) gave us his blessing, and he's taken Hatebreed out with (his band) Danzig a couple times.

Novinec told Circa News that even his mother is approached by people with opinions about her son's band name... and some of the things she hears are pretty out there.

I know how your son's band got the name Hatebreed. Somebody told me what had happened. One of the guys in the band's mother got raped and they had the kid and that's why the band is called Hatebreed.
as told to Hatebreed's Frank Novenic's mother
