A mom gifted wine to her son's teachers, because 'our child might be the reason you drink'

Evermine art director Stacy Dutton was looking for a special gift for National Teacher Appreciation Week, so the mother-of-two put her talents to use and designed a wine bottle label with a photo of her son and a pretty funny statement.

"Our child might be the reason you drink, so enjoy this bottle on us!"

Evermine is an art company based in Portland, Oregon, that specializes in personalized paper and stationary, so Dutton was in a unique position to capitalize on her talents. But after a photo of her little joke went viral on Reddit, she caused a little bit of controversy. Some parents think a gift of alcohol to apologize for a child's behavior is inappropriate.

Others don't seem to mind at all.

“People either love it or they hate it,” Dutton told the TODAY Show. “All it was ever meant to be was just a nice, funny, light-hearted gift.”

I know my son’s teachers very well. I know them on a personal level. My son has been going to the same spot for a few years, and they’ve pretty much been raising my son with me since he was 3 months old," Dutton added. "I knew they were going to find the gift funny and humorous. And, since he had kind of just started his terrible two’s, I thought it would be a fun, appropriate gift."
