An investigator's lawsuit alleges Fox News made up part of its Seth Rich story

An investigator who worked on the Seth Rich case claimed in a lawsuit that Fox News fabricated quotes implicating the murdered Democratic National Committee staffer in the WikiLeaks scandal and that President Trump pressured the network to publish the story.

In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, investigator Rod Wheeler sued Fox News for defamation, claiming the story was created to divert attention from the Russia collusion scandal.

Wheeler, who was a Fox contributor and looked into the 2016 murder, said the news organization made up quotes attributed to him alleging that there was contact between Rich and WikiLeaks, and that someone -- possibly the Democrats or Hillary Clinton's campaign -- was obstructing the murder investigation.

D.C. police officials believe Rich was killed as result of a botched robbery.
