Twitter's user base is declining in the US despite all the free publicity from Trump

Despite having the leader of the free world relentlessly use its platform to convey his messages to the American people, Twitter reported on Thursday that its user base in the U.S. has declined from 70 million to 68 million in the most recent quarter.

Twitter has a global user base of 328 million users. Its stock has fell 9 percent in the pre-market trading on Thursday after the report was released.

The San Francisco-based company launched in July 2006. In 2013, it was named one of the 10 most-visited websites of the year.

President Trump has been a loyal Twitter user and often uses it to connect with the American people.

Some have criticized the president for his inflammatory language on Twitter, but Trump insists that he will not stop tweeting.

"The FAKE MSM is working so hard trying to get me not to use Social Media," President Trump tweeted last month. "They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out."
