A soldier is being lauded for saluting a funeral procession in the pouring rain

A photo of a Kentucky soldier standing outside in pouring rain to salute during a funeral procession went viral after a bystander shared it on her personal Facebook page.

Erin Hester of Vine Grove, Kentucky, took the photo last Thursday. She made her post public, something she told CNN she rarely does. Her post has since been shared more than 120,000 times.

"I was so completely touched by this today," Hester wrote. "A funeral procession was passing by and this soldier got out of his jeep to stand at attention in the pouring rain."

She continued, "This made my heart happy to see the amount of respect that this gentleman showed a family that he doesn't even know. #values#respect."

Hester told CNN she doesn't know who the soldier is, but suggested "he will not want recognition as this is probably something that is a part of his core values and does this on a regular basis."

Some took to Twitter to thank the soldier.

Others praised the soldier as a "hero" and a "class act" in comments on Hester's Facebook post.

"God bless all of our great guy n great lady of all our services for it take a real special person to be a servant good enough to serve our country today n always amen," Joe Patterson wrote.
