We tried a microneedling face roller for a week. Here's what happened.

Don’t let “needle” in “microneedle roller” scare you. This face roller -- though small and unassuming -- makes grand promises to brighten, tighten and firm your skin to that of a glowing goddess.

So when Stacked Skincare first sent the roller to us, we were a bit underwhelmed by its appearance. It’s small, with a roller at the end with 0.2 mm stainless steel needles all over the surface. Thankfully though, the needles aren’t sharp enough to actually puncture millions of holes in your face.

On the packaging, it promises to remove “dull, dead cells from the top layer of the skin, giving it a smoother, plumper, and firmer appearance.” The roller is supposed to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and boost collagen as well.

Our brave volunteer, Fernando Hurtado -- one of our multimedia journalists here at Circa -- decided to try the roller every day for a week while keeping his diet clean and drinking collagen.

“So we're supposed to roll it vertically, horizontally and diagonally. It says to do it twice on your cheeks, your forehead, your chin, your lips, and your neck,” Fernando said. “It doesn't hurt, it just feels like a little cat rolling it's paw up you.”

He did say it hurt when he rolled it on his forehead a little bit. He started breaking out progressively as days went by, but wasn’t sure if it was because of the roller or because he was traveling and sleeping poorly.

The verdict? Honestly, there wasn’t a stunning difference between Day 1 and Day 7. It gets pretty tedious to do it everyday, according to Fernando-- he says he would do it maybe 2-3 times a week instead for a longer period of time to see better results.
