Yeeeaaaaahhhhh. This was never going to go down well. This is Twitter we're talking about.
"New Girl" actor Daman Wayans Jr. took to Twitter on Independence Day, wishing his followers a "Happy white people proud of their racist ancestors day."

Now, obviously some cheered Wayans' words. While others... others were not so charmed.
This racist country made Damon Wayans a millionaire and richer than he'd be anywhere else. *awkward*— carl d. (@carld1980) July 4, 2017
Damon Wayans sounds uncomfortable living in the USA. Maybe he should leave, move to country that he can love— Jack Bauer (@WideAwake35) July 5, 2017
Many were also quick to point out that Wayans Jr. once starred in a film where he "changed" the color of his skin.
Wayans responded to a lot of criticism of his tweets by saying that his statement was intended as a joke, and shouldn't be taken so seriously.
