It's never too early to get hyped for Tom Cruise's return as a naval aviator.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed late Friday night that "Top Gun: Maverick" will fly into theaters July 12, 2019, USA Today reported.
Bruckheimer's tweet also identified the movie's director as Joe Kosinski, who has a past with Cruise. In 2013, he directed the sciene fiction film "Oblivion."
Nearly 30 years after the first "Top Gun," Cruise confirmed the production of a sequel in May on Australian television.
"It's true," Cruise said. "I'm going to start probably in the next year. I know, it's happening. It's definitely happening."
