Michael Jackson’s father said he is 'without a scratch' after a car accident

The father of pop star Michael Jackson says he is unharmed after getting into a car accident Friday.

“Earlier today while in the Car with my assistant we got involved in an accident as they drove in front of us,” Joe Jackson said in a statement on his website. “I got out of it without a scratch.”

“My assistant, however, had to be taken to the emergency [room] because the airbag in the car broke his thumb. We are leaving and going back out to enjoy our lunch at home. All is well. Thank God.”

Some Twitter users on Friday voiced gratitude that Joe Jackson, 88, was uninjured following the incident in Las Vegas.

TMZ reported that Joe Jackson was taken to a hospital following Friday’s crash on the Las Vegas strip.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Joe Jackson was in a black Jaguar when it T-boned a red SUV.

Witnesses told the entertainment outlet that Joe Jackson next walked to a Panda Express near the crash site and sat down while wincing in pain.

Joe Jackson is a talent manager who helped guide his sons Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael Jackson in the pop group the Jackson 5 in the early 1960s.

Michael Jackson and his sister Janet Jackson would ultimately go on to successful careers as solo performers before the former’s death in 2009 due to a drug-induced cardiac arrest.
