The Senate Intelligence Committee will get the Comey memos

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-NC) says that his panel will obtain former FBI Director James Comey’s memos detailing his talks with President Trump.

“I’ve got a commitment,” he told Politico Wednesday, adding “I’m not going to tell you” who committed to giving the panel the documents.

“[I’m] fairly certain of the timeline,” Burr added of when the memos were coming. “It does us no good later.”

Twitter users on Wednesday began speculating over what would happen once the committee receives the memos.

Several House and Senate committees asked for Comey’s memos after the former FBI director’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence panel earlier this month.

Comey testified that he permitted a friend, identified as Columbia University law professor Daniel Richman, to share the contents of a single memo with a journalist.

The memos reportedly include an extensive recounting of Trump pressing Comey to drop the FBI’s probe of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

Burr and Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), the panel’s vice chairman, met with special counsel Robert Mueller earlier this month amid ongoing investigations of 2016 Russian election meddling.

Mueller is leading the federal probe into the matter, which includes possible ties between Russia and Trump’s presidential campaign, after the president fired Comey in May.
