Laundromat regulars know the waiting around time can be a bit long, so one cafe in San Francisco, California has a place where you can do your laundry and grub on some food while you wait for your clothes. Brainwash Cafe has been around since 1989 and was originally started by Susan Schindler who was actually searching for a nightclub location to open in a neighborhood in San Francisco.
Locals in the San Francisco area head to laundromats because apartments don't have laundry inside the buildings."This is a pretty timeless concept because the services we provide are pretty basic," current owner Jeff Zalles said. The cafe has a full menu which includes sandwiches, burgers, salads, breakfast staples, beer, wine and lots of sweets.
"I like to say there are two things people need through life and that's good health and clean laundry," Jeff Zalles, owner of Brainwash Cafe said. Brainwash even has an open mic comedy almost every night, which attendees and participants are able to do laundry and watch comedy. Brady Hold, an open mic participant, said "I love to hang out here, it's really fun and I come back all the time now, not only to do my comedy but to do my laundry."
According to Zalles, apartments in the San Francisco areas don't often have laundry in the buildings, so laundromats are critical for locals. He said it's the one place you can go and have fun doing your laundry.
