The Original Boston Cream Pie

We went to Boston to eat the original Boston Cream Pie

Share

Did you know the very first Boston Cream Pie was made in 1856? It was actually called the "Chocolate Cream Pie". We went to find it and (more importantly) eat it. The Parker House in Boston has kept the original recipe in-tact since 1856 and serves tons of them daily.

The Boston Cream Pie is actually a cake. Back in the 19th century when the original Boston Cream Pie was invented, they didn't have the fancy cake tins that we use today. Pie and cake tins were interchangeable and chef Sanzian happened to use a pie tin, hence the name Boston Cream "Pie".

Overtime they've changed up a few embellishments - adding the spider web design and creating individual sized cakes.

But the recipe has remained exactly the same since 1856 -- 161 years!

And after tasting it, I understand why. Do not leave Boston without one!
