Stephen Colbert said US and Russian intelligence 'followed me everywhere' in Russia

Stephen Colbert returned from Russia with new material for his "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and also with new insight on the country, revealing Monday that when he was in Russia, Russian intelligence followed him everywhere.

“You know who did know I was in Russia? Russian intelligence. Hardcore fans, evidently... followed me everywhere,” Colbert said.

“Also got some attention from American intelligence; a couple of guys seemed to pop up wherever I went," he added. "You know, it’s important to keep your eye on a comedian, while he’s over there doing jokes."

During Colbert's time in Russia, the host made a guest appearance on a late-night state run Russian talk show, where he jokingly announced that he will run for U.S. president in 2020. Colbert said at the end of the show that he “never wanted to be home more” due to the paranoia and censorship he observed in Russia. Colbert poked fun at President Donald Trump while in Russia.

Some think Colbert going to Russia was a bad idea.
