An oil tank explosion killed at least 135 people in Pakistan

At least 153 men, women and children were killed in the oil tank explosion, according to the Associated Press.

An overturned oil tanker exploded on Sunday in Pakistan, killing at  least 135 people, according to CNN.The blast left at least 130 people injured with serious burns and in critical condition. According to police officials the incident occurred when villagers in Bahawalpur gathered around the truck to collect oil.

Some of the people injured suffered 70% burns according to CNN. 

After the incident occurred, Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif office issued a statement. 

"The Prime Minister has directed provincial government to provide full medical assistance to the injured with burns," a statement from the Prime Minister's office said. "The Prime Minister has expressed sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls."

Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, tweeted that the explosion was "a national tragedy of epic proportions."

The US Embassy in Islamabad tweeted its condolences.
