Democrats say the party needs new leadership and 'a vision' after their latest setback

UPDATE 12:01 p.m. EST:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that she maintains widespread support from House Democrats.

"I thrive on competition and I welcome the discussion. But I am honored by the support," Pelosi said at a press conference in the Capitol.

UPDATE 10:26 a.m. EST:  Trump is hoping Pelosi keeps her leadership post. Schumer, too.

ORIGINAL STORY:  Rep. Tim Ryan suggested on MSNBC on Thursday that the DNC needs a change in leadership, saying that "it’ll be very hard” for Democrats to win control of the House with Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in charge.

Ryan said the party has failed to learn from the 2016 presidential election.

“We’d better take a good, long, strong look in the mirror and realize that the problem is us, it’s the party,” Ryan told The Hill.

The Democratic National Committee recorded its lowest fundraising total in May since 2003, taking in just $4.3 million, The Hill reported. In contrast, the Republican National Committee raised nearly twice as much, with $10.8 million.

News of the Democrats' low fundraising total comes after several election defeats. This past week, Jon Ossoff lost the special election in Georgia's 6th district to Republican Karen Handel in the most expensive House race of all time.

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) echoed Ryan’s sentiments about the party.

“We need to have a plan, we need to have a vision, we need to tell Americans why Democrats will be better, not just why Trump is bad,” Moulton told The Hill. “And I don’t think we’re doing enough of that, and I think that’s evident in this [Georgia] race.”

Some agreed it's time for new Democratic leadership.
