A 4-year-old girl begged her mother to stay calm after the Philando Castile shooting

A 4-year-old girl tried to calm down her mother, Diamond Reynolds, after both witnessed a police officer fatally shoot Reynolds' boyfriend, Philando Castile.

As they were in the back seat of the police car, Reynolds' daughter began to worry that her mother might be next. "Mom, please stop cussing and screaming," she said, "I don't want you to get shooted."

Video of the interaction was used as evidence in the trial of former St. Anthony (Minn.) Officer Jeronimo Yanez.

Yanez, who said he believed Castile was reaching for a gun when he shot him, was acquitted of all charges last week.

Reynolds' daughter tried to reassure her mother that everything was going to be alright after the shooting. "It's OK. I'm right here with you. ... I can keep you safe," she said, placing her hands on Reynolds' neck and face.

Reynolds and her daughter were driving with Castile on July 6 when Yanez pulled them over in Falcon Heights.

The dashcam video of the shooting was released to the public days after the incident occurred.
