Prince Philip was hospitalized and will miss the queen's speech to Parliament

Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital Monday night as a "precautionary measure" and will miss the Queen Elizabeth II's speech to Parliament.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman told The Sun that “The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last night, as a precautionary measure, for treatment of an infection arising from a pre-existing condition."

“Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot."

Prince Philip was supposed to accompany the queen to the State Opening of Parliament Tuesday but his place will be taken by the Prince of Wales. His admittance to the hospital comes less than two weeks after his 96th birthday.

People took to Twitter to offer the price a speedy recovery.
