Stephen Hawking said humans 'need to leave Earth' to survive

Physicist Stephen Hawking stated that time is running out for humankind on Earth, and said that the only way to survive is to leave the planet during a speech at the Starmus Festival in Norway.

According to Telegraph, Hawkings said "I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth. The Earth is becoming too small for us. Our physical resources are being drained at an alarming rate."

In recent years, Hawking had warned that humans have 1,000 years to leave Earth. Now, he predicts we only have 100 years left.

"We have given our planet the disastrous gift of climate change, rising temperatures, the reducing of polar ice caps, deforestation and decimation of animal species," Hawking said.

Hawking told the audience that Earth would eventually be hit by a devastating asteroid strike.

"Spreading out into space will completely change the future of humanity. It may also determine whether we have any future at all," he said.

Some were skeptical.
