An F-16 fighter jet burst into flames, causing a one-mile area of Houston to be evacuated


A one-mile radius of Houston has been evacuated after a F-16 fighter jet burst into flames as it was taking off Wednesday at Ellington Airport, according to a statement provided by the North American Aerospace Defense Command and CBS News. The pilot safety ejected and is being treated at a local medical facility.  

The Fighting Falcon aircraft was conducting a training flight at the time of the crash. 

Following the incident, Ellington Field, a base shared by various U.S. military units and NASA, was also evacuated.
