President Trump on Monday tweeted that voters in Georgia and South Carolina should back Republicans in House special elections the following day as Democrats have “no ideas.”
Big day tomorrow in Georgia and South Carolina. ObamaCare is dead. Dems want to raise taxes big! They can only obstruct, no ideas. Vote "R"— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 20, 2017
The race in Georgia between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel has attracted national attention, with both parties pouring money into the contest.
The pair’s battle now ranks as the most expensive House contest in history, costing an estimated $50 million before Tuesday’s vote.
The winner of Tuesday’s vote will take a seat vacated by former Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), who is now Trump’s Health and Human Services Secretary.
Twitter users on Monday used the social media platform to make their voices heard before the hotly-anticipated vote.
Trump’s tweet was also referencing a competition in South Carolina between Republican Ralph Norman and Democrat Archie Parnell.
Norman purportedly has a solid lead before Tuesday’s vote, which will fill a seat held by former Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC).
Mulvaney left his role in Congress to become Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Twitter users on Monday weighed in ahead of the contest over South Carolina’s 5th Congressional District.

This year’s special congressional elections have inspired national attention, with Democrats and Republicans each looking for evidence on how Trump and his agenda impacts their candidates.
