Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) compared President Donald Trump to a con artist during an interview on CNN on Sunday, reports The Hill.
“I know a con artist when I see one and I saw a con artist that day,” said Gutierrez.
Gutierrez said that Trump appeared to know "exactly what he was doing" when he allegedly asked officials to leave the room so that he and former FBI Director James Comey could speak in private.
Trump wasn't the only Republican politician that Gutierrez took issue with on Sunday.
“And then we’re supposed to believe he really doesn’t know what he’s doing,” referencing a speech given by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) in which Ryan said that the president still lacks some experience in handling such meetings.
Gutierrez's words have sparked strong reactions from both sides of the political spectrum.
