Rafael Nadal won the French Open for the tenth time in his career

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal won the French open for the 10th time in his career on Sunday, defeating 2015 champion Steve Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.

No other male or female player has won 10 championships at the same major since 1968, when the Open era began.

“I play my best at all events, but the feeling here is impossible to describe. It’s impossible to compare it to another place,” Nadal said.

Last year, Nadal withdrew from the competition before the third round due to a wrist injury. He reportedly couldn't watch much of the rest of the tournament. He got back to work during the off season, and it certainly paid off today

“The nerves, the adrenaline, I feel on the court are impossible to compare to another feeling. This is the most important event in my career,” said Nadal.

Nadal's preferred playing surface is clay.
