Afghan special forces soldier killed two U.S. soldiers and Taliban claims responsibility

Two U.S. soldiers were killed in a green on blue incident Saturday, when an Afghan special forces soldier opened fire on them at a base in the Nangarhar Province, of Eastern Afghanistan, Circa has learned. The Taliban told Circa they claimed responsibility for the attack.

The militant group has increased attacks against the Afghan government and western forces over the last year.

U.S. military officials in Afghanistan did not immediately return phone calls or email for comment. But the Taliban has long threatened insider attacks against western forces in the region, known as green on blue attacks.

The provincial governor's spokesman Ataullah Khogyani, for Nangarhar, confirmed the incident with Circa, saying the two U.S. soldiers were "killed in an insider attack involving an Afghan National Special Forces soldier in the restive Achin district," of the province.

Khogyani said the incident took "place in the evening" and confirmed that two other soldiers were wounded.
