Ice Cube to Bill Maher, basically: Bye, Felicia.
Rapper and actor Ice Cube gave Bill Maher a stern talking to Friday night on "Real Time," a week after the comedian and television host used the n-word on his HBO show, setting off a social media firestorm.
"Sometimes you sound like a redneck trucker," Ice Cube joked as Maher tried to explain that he often makes jokes against racism.
Then, things got real.
What made you think that it was OK to say that?
Cube asked Maher why he thought it was acceptable to use to racial slur. Maher said "there was no thought put into it."
Maher proceeded to apologize and Cube accepted his apology, but not before teaching him a very important lesson that got an overwhelming positive feedback from people online.
"It's a word that has been used against us. It's like a knife man and you can use it as a weapon or you can use it as a tool. It's been used as a weapon against us by white people and we not gonna let that happen again by nobody, because it's not cool," the rapper said.
He continued: "I know it's in your lexicon... but that's our word now. That's our word now and you can't have it back."
The word is not yours & cannot be. It tears at souls & set fire to a hatred that divided our nation. Don't do it. Ever. Move along. Not you.— John Dingell (@JohnDingell) June 10, 2017
Ice Cube's comments got an emotional response from some people on social media.
