Adam West, TV's original Batman, has died at 88


UPDATE 12:42 p.m.: The West family posted on Adam's official Facebook page.

Adam West, who played Batman in the original '60s TV series, has died at age 88. His rep told Variety Saturday that the actor passed away after battling leukemia.

"Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans' lives. He was and always will be our hero," his family said in a statement.

West is survived by wife Marcelle, six children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

West has voiced characters on "Fairly Odd Parents," "Spongebob" and " Simpsons."

People have taken to social media to express their condolences.

Hollywood is also speaking out about the impact West has had on the industry.
