An escaping driver in Florida dragged this sheriff's deputy 10 feet

WATCH | A routine traffic stop in Florida turned life threatening.

A sheriff’s deputy in Volusia County, Florida, is recovering after being dragged by a vehicle he pulled over last Sunday.

Deputy William Kretzer stopped the car for speeding in the town of Pierson, and then found two open warrants for the driver, LaRodney Bennet.

Newly-released body camera footage shows that when Kretzer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle, the car began to move, dragging the deputy about 10 feet.

Kretzer can be heard yelling, “Don’t do it, don’t do it,” before being dragged.

The deputy was then able to roll away, running back to his car to pursue the Bennett.

Bennett was later arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

The deputy suffered minor cuts on his arm and head, but other than that, he was fine.
