WATCH | Police and a gunman exchange fire after an attempted robbery in Baltimore.
Baltimore County Police killed a suspect who attempted to flee an armed robbery at a nearby Baltimore shopping center on Wednesday. During the exchange of gunfire, a police officer and a civilian were injured, affiliate WJLA reported.
The officer was shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital. Police said the civilian is in serious condition at the hospital but is expected to survive.
According to police, the suspect boarded an MTA bus in an attempt to escape police, who received a call that a man robbed two people at gunpoint. The bus was ultimately stopped by law enforcement officials before an exchange of gunfire ensued.
A witness identified as Clayton Brown told WBALTV, "The road was closed, so I pulled up and I stopped and I saw weapons drawn. The next thing I know, I hear shots being fired. While I'm sitting in the truck, there's a sign next to me and a bullet hit that sign next to me. Next time I look up, the female officer is shot and she's down. I threw the truck in reverse and I just backed out of there to keep from getting hit," Clayton Brown, a witness, told the I-Team's Barry Simms.
