Police arrested an Alabama mail carrier Thursday after they say she fed a meatball full of nails to a dog along her route.
Susan Burhans was charged with aggravated animal cruelty by Madison County Sheriff deputies after a joint investigation with the Postal Service.
Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Salomonsky said the investigation began two weeks ago when a complaint was filed and now at least one other resident has also filed a complaint.

Ed Glover of New Hope, AL alerted police after he took his dog, Missy, to the vet and x-rays found nails in her stomach. Burhans is Glover's mail carrier.
Glover became suspicious after he found a meatball full of nails near his mailbox and thought Burhans had already fed one to his dog. He told WHNT he is happy Burhans was charged and hopes she will not return to her job.
Burhans posted $2,500 bail Thursday and was released from the Madison County Jail.
