Muslim groups have raised over $500,000 for the victims of the Portland stabbings

Watch| In light of the horrific stabbings that took place in Portland, Oregon last Friday, Muslim groups have raised about a half-a-million dollars to support the families of the victims who tried to defend Muslim women from racist abuse.

Through their Launchgood campaign, the Muslim Educational Trust of Portland were able to raise $1,000 every five minutes, well exceeding their initial goal of $60,000.

The initial funds were raised to cover the funeral costs for victims Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche and Ricky John Best. Organizers explained that they plan to utilize the remaining funds for supporting Best's four children.

With three days left and over 10,000 supporters, their new goal is set at $550,000.

A memorial grew all day Saturday outside the transit center in Portland, as people stopped with flowers, candles, signs and painted rocks.
