Almost half of Trump's Twitter followers are fake accounts

President Trump really likes Twitter. And he's pretty good at it. The president has over 30 million followers on Twitter, a number that saw an unusual spike over this past weekend, according to Newsweek.  And, browsing through some of those new additions reveals a couple of things. There are a lot of accounts that follow the president that have no profile pics or tweets. In fact, if you run the president's Twitter handle, @realDonaldTrump, through Twitter Audit, which assesses how many of an account's followers are real, it turns out half the Donald's are fake.

Approximately 15 million of Trump's followers are judged to be fake by Twitter audit.

This actually isn't the first time that someone has pointed out that a significant portion of Trump's twitter followers are fake.

In January, journalist Yashar Ali ran the same diagnostic on Trump's followers and determined that 68 percent of the accounts following @realDonaldTrump were fake. Back then, Trump only had 20 million followers.

That means of the 10 million accounts that followed Trump since January, 8.3 million are fake.

The revelation has led many online to believe that Trump purchased fake followers.
