The mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has been killed in a boating accident


Bonnie Kalanick, the mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, died in a boating accident at Pine Flat Lake on Friday night. Kalanick's father, Donald, was injured and is in serious condition, according to affiliate Fox 26. 

Kalanick's mother was 71. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.

Uber released a statement on Saturday saying: “Last night Travis and his family suffered an unspeakable tragedy. His mother passed away in a devastating boating accident near Fresno and his father is in serious condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family in this heartbreaking time.”

Fresno County sheriff's deputies were alerted to an incident around 5:30 p.m. on Friday after calls of a boat sinking near the Trimmer Springs Marina at Pine Flat Lake. 

People nearby saw the boat sinking and rushed for help. But, when first responders arrived, the boat had already sunk.

Witnesses couldn't identify what led to the boat's sinking. On Saturday, deputies will retrieve the boat to further investigate.
